Celebration of Makar Sankranthi

The harvest always brings hope, joy and a celebratory spirit. To mark this spirit of celebration, Makar Sankranti was celebrated at college. The event was conducted on 13 January 2023 by the department of Humanities and Languages in association with SARVAM – The Diversity Promotion Club. The event was entitled Sankranti Suggi which means “the day of harvest” in Kannada. Makara Sankranti is a festival celebrated all over India with several names like Lohri, Bihu, Pongal, Suggi etc. In many states of India, the festival is celebrated by flying kites and sharing delicacies made out of sesame seeds. The students of ST PAULS COLLEGE also followed the same custom to celebrate this festival. The event was coordinated by Ms Saranya, Ms Samra, Mr Pradeep and Mr Melwyn along with the student coordinator Mr Noyal of 3 BA, Ms Jennifer of 2 BA and Ms Ahana of 1 BA, ably assisted by student council members. The day’s events included a kite-making competition, a chart making competition and cheerful kite-flying activity. Chocolates were distributed to the students present in the celebration and the event was cherished by one and all.
