Financial Fitness: A guide to financial management and literacy

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) successfully conducted a one-day Professional Development Programme (PDP) on the theme of “Financial Fitness: A guide to financial management and literacy ” on the 27th of February 2024. The event aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills related to financial management and well-being.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Shailaja M, member of IQAC and Head of the Department (HOD) of Humanities. Dr. Shailaja set the tone for the day’s proceedings, emphasizing the significance of financial fitness in today’s dynamic environment. Following the principal’s address, Revd Father Dr. Thomas M J, the Principal of ST PAULS COLLEGE addressed the gathering. He highlighted the importance of continuous professional development and commended the initiative taken by IQAC in organizing such a valuable programme.
Dr. Babu V, the IQAC Coordinator and HOD of Commerce and Management, oriented on the essentials of Professional Development Programmes (PDP). Dr. Babu provided insights into the significance of PDPs in career advancement and personal growth, setting the stage for the subsequent sessions.
The highlight of the programme was the session on Financial Fitness conducted by Mr. J S Subramanian, a seasoned Financial Management Coach. Mr. Subramanian shared practical strategies and tips for achieving financial well-being, including budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt. The session was interactive, with participants engaging in discussions and gaining valuable insights into effective financial planning.
Following the Financial Fitness session, a Q&A session was conducted, allowing participants to seek clarification on various aspects of financial management. The enthusiastic participation and insightful questions posed during this session underscored the importance and relevance of the topic. Subsequently, feedback was collected from all 32 participants, reflecting their overall satisfaction with the programme’s content and delivery.
Dr. Prashanth V, the Secretary of IQAC and HOD of JMC, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the participants, resource persons, and organizers for their contributions towards making the event a success. Dr. Prashanth reiterated the commitment of IQAC to continue organizing such impactful programmes for the professional development of the faculty and staff.
Outcomes
• Enhanced Knowledge and Awareness: Participants exhibited a heightened comprehension of financial concepts and principles post-program, evident in their active engagement in discussions and the calibre of questions raised during the Q&A session.
• Heightened Financial Literacy: Participants showcased an elevated grasp of financial concepts and principles post-program, reflected in their active involvement in discussions and the depth of inquiries posed during the Q&A session.
