Guest Talk on Relevance of Gandhi in Contemporary India

The Gandhi Study Center and the NSS Unit of ST PAULS College organized a guest talk on “Relevance of Gandhi in Contemporary India” on 1st October 2024. The talk was delivered by the esteemed speaker, Dr. Madhumati Deshpande,(Associate Professor Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, Christ University)

The event began with a warm welcome by Ms. Angel,(Student Coordinator) who set the stage for a thought-provoking session. Following the welcome, Ms. Chaithra,(Student Coordinator) introduced the speaker by reading Dr. Deshpande’s profile, highlighting her significant contributions to the study of Gandhi’s life and teachings. Ms. Savathri C(Assistant Professor, Department of Language) and Dr. Babu V (HOD, Commerce, and Management) felicitated Dr. Deshpande with a memento as a token of appreciation for her valuable time and contribution.

Dr. Madhumati Deshpande, in her engaging talk, delved into the timeless relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas in the modern world, particularly focusing on peace, non-violence, and social justice. She emphasized how Gandhi’s philosophy offers solutions to many contemporary issues such as inequality, environmental sustainability, and political ethics. After the insightful session, the event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving the audience with much to reflect upon regarding Gandhi’s enduring impact on today’s society.

The guest talk was well-received by the attendees, making it a memorable and educational experience for the faculty and students alike.
