HUMANZA 2023
HUMANZA, the intercollegiate cultural fest organized by the Department of Humanities at St Pauls College, Bengaluru, took place on 25th May 2023. The event aimed to celebrate and promote arts and culture among students from various colleges in Bangalore.
Under the guidance of faculty coordinators Ms Mridula Kulkarni and Ms Samra Fuad, supported by Head of the Department Dr. Shailaja M, a team of student coordinators led by Shivakami and Hitha from the III BA class worked diligently to ensure the success of the fest. Pappu Kumar from the II BA class and Bhavya from the I BA class also played crucial roles as student coordinators.
The venue was adorned with extensive decorations crafted by the talented students, creating a vibrant and captivating atmosphere. The fest featured a wide range of competitions, including Shipwreck, Role Play, War of Emotions, Quiz, Group Dance, Group Singing, Photography, Volg Reels, Fashion Show, Face Painting, and Creative Writing, attracting participation from 17 colleges around Bangalore. In total, over 120 candidates from colleges around the city competed in these various events, showcasing their talent and creativity.
To kick off the fest, a curtain raiser was held on the lawns of the college on 24th May 2023. The inauguration ceremony took place at 10 am on the following day, starting with a prayer and the lighting of the lamp. Shivakami, a student coordinator from the III BA class, delivered a warm welcome speech. The inaugural address was given by the principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas MJ, who emphasized the importance of arts and culture in education. Ms Samra Fuad, Assistant Professor, Department of Humanities, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the participants and organizers.
Throughout the day, a wide range of cultural events, both onstage and offstage, took place, showcasing the talents of the participants. The fest witnessed vibrant participation from the students, who displayed their skills and passion in various art forms. Judges, including internal faculty members, alumni, and eminent professionals from different fields, evaluated the performances and provided valuable feedback. The event coordinators, comprising students from different batches, ensured the smooth conduct of the fest, contributing to its overall success.
In addition to the exciting competitions, the fest featured various food stalls sponsored by local businesses, offering delicious treats to the attendees. The stalls not only provided sustenance but also added to the festive ambiance, creating a lively and enjoyable experience for everyone present.
The valedictory ceremony marked the culmination of the event. Hitha, a student coordinator from the III BA class, delivered a warm welcome speech, expressing gratitude to all the participants, organizers, and sponsors. Musical guests were felicitated by the principal, acknowledging their contributions to the fest. The results of the competitions were announced, and the prizes were distributed to the deserving winners. Presidency College emerged as the overall runners-up, while St Claret College claimed the overall trophy.
To conclude the day’s programs on a high note, a mesmerizing music concert by Band Kalatva was organized, providing a delightful experience for the attendees. The concert showcased the immense talent of the band members and served as a fitting finale to the successful cultural fest.
HUMANZA, with its diverse range of competitions, enthusiastic participation, and lively atmosphere, brought together students from different colleges to celebrate and appreciate arts and culture. The event served as a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and fostered a sense of camaraderie among the participants. The tireless efforts of the faculty coordinators, student coordinators, and event coordinators ensured the smooth execution of the fest. HUMANZA will be remembered as a vibrant and memorable celebration of creativity, talent, and cultural diversity.
