Industrial Visit to All India Radio (AIR)

The journalism students of ST PAULS COLLEGE, Bengaluru, embarked on a one-day industrial visit to AIR (All India Radio), Mysore, on 18 November 2022, to commemorate National Press Day. They were accompanied by Prof. Jenin Raj S., HoD, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, and Dr. Prashanth V., Assistant Professor.

Upon reaching the AIR premises, the group was welcomed to witness the ongoing Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations, with artists performing folk dance and songs. The group was initially briefed about the history of AIR Mysore by the AIR Assistant Director for Programmes.

The group was then given a tour of the AIR building, which was home to many different departments. Each department’s job was explained, including that of the recording room, the unique V-shaped music studio, the broadcast room, and many other production studios, all of which could be seen from the main control room. The students were taught about the functions of each department as well as the various job opportunities at AIR. This trip also enabled the media students to get in touch with the cultural roots of their profession and helped them gain insight into the workings of a media organisation outside their textbooks and lectures.
