Industrial Visit to Nachiketha Manovikasa Kendra

Department of Psychology, ST PAULS COLLEGE, Bengaluru organized a one day industrial visit to the special school Nachiketha Manovikasa Kendra, Vijayanagar, Bengaluru. 13 first year MSc Psychology students were part of visit that was organizd on 2nd December 2023.

The school consists of children who are diagnosed with intellectual disability, ADHD, Down syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy etc. The students were accompanied by two faculty members, Dr. Shailaja M, and Ms, Deeksha M R. The students attended music and speech therapy session for 1 hour from 10am to 11am. The students gathered along wth children to witness garden cleaning that will enable to use the motor movements, eye hand coordination and bringing a sense of responsibility from 11am to 11:45am.

After the interaction with children of special school, Mr. Narasimha Shenoy, Secretary of Nachiketha Manovikasa Kendra Trust briefed about the establishment of the trust, school and children of the school. He created awareness among the students regarding the importance of spreading knowledge about special children and also educated the students about ways which help prevent intellectual diability in future generations. The students interacted with the secretary by asking many questions about genetic abnormalities, tyes of retardation, lifestyle of parents of special children and so on.

The industrial visit was successfully completed by students expressing their feedback and providing key takeaways from the session.
