About

ST PAULS COLLEGE LIBRARY is a Resource Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Research. Being the heart of the College, it is home to all the information services. It plays a proactive role in enabling access to information resources of all kinds and providing innovative, responsive, and effective services to meet the changing needs of the students and faculty. The main objective of the library is to provide maximum knowledge and information both in quantity and quality to the right users at the right time.

The new state-of-the-art digital library has an E-Learning Center, Reference Section, Circulation Section, OPAC Search, Journals, Magazines, and a Newspaper Section. The library holds a hybrid collection of printed as well as electronic resources which include books, journals, databases, audio-visuals, CDs, DVDs, e-books, e-journals, reports, course materials, question papers of previous years, bound volumes, project reports, case studies, The library provides spacious seating arrangements and serene ambience for learning. Trained and committed library staff provide adequate support to the academic community.

The library is fully automated with KOHA software. It is hosted on the server and maintained by IT experts. The entire collection is bar-coded.

Know Your Library

  1. Eligibility for the Library Membership

All students, faculty members, and administrative staff of the ST PAULS COLLEGE are eligible to obtain Library membership. 

  1. How to become a library member?

The library membership form will be issued in the library between the working hours. Students and Staff submit the membership form to the librarian along with stamp size photography.

  1. Circulation Policy
  • Borrowing facilities are given only to the member of the library
  • Two books are issued to students for 10 days.
  • New books can only be issued after technical processing has been completed.
  • Reference books, rare books, and unbounded periodicals may not be issued generally except with the written permission of the Principal.
  • The librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of a book to any member or he/she can recall any book without assigning any reason thereby.
  1. Renewal of Issued Books
  • Books borrowed should be presented physically for renewal.
  • Books will be renewed only if there are no reservations.
  • In the case of a reserved document, the same will be allotted to the borrower foremost in the reservation list.
  1. Over Dues Charges
  • If books are not returned on the due date, an overdue charge of 2.00 Rupees cost per day will be charged.
  • All members should return the books borrowed from the library before they proceed on a long period of leave. Borrowers will be held responsible for any damage or mutilation of the document noticed at the time of returning.
  • Members should return all the library books and cards while taking no due certificate from the library.
  • If a member does not pay the library dues, the privilege of borrowing books may be suspended till he/she pays the requisite amount.
  1. Loss of Books /Damage
  • In case any book is lost /damaged by the member, the member shall replace the book or pay double the cost of the lost book.
  1. General Guidelines
  • Every person who enters the library should sign the gate register in token of his/her acceptance to adhere to the rules of the library. No personal belongings shall be allowed except for papers and notebooks.
  • The readers should maintain silence within the library premises. No reader is allowed to sleep on the library premises.
  • Eating, loud conversation, chewing, and similar objectionable acts are not allowed and are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • It is in the interest of the borrower to verify at the time of borrowing, whether the document is in good condition or not, and report damage/mutilation if any, to the library staff.
  • The Library staff are authorized to check any user for books brought into or taken out of the Library. Readers must be aware and adhere to Plagiarism, Photocopy right act 1957 towards duplicating any reading materials of the library either in full or portion.

Library Services & Special features

  1. REPROGRAPHIC SERVICE

Library users have easy access to photocopying facilities, which enable them to reproduce required material from books, journals, and newspapers. The photocopiers are housed inside the library for ease of access.

  1. REFERENCE SERVICE

The library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, atlases, etc. The Reference Section facility is extended to the students, staff, and faculty of the Institute from 08.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Readers may approach the Reference Desk for any information, assistance, or query.

  1. INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICE

Interlibrary Loans (ILL) is a practice between participating libraries that establish agreements with one another to share materials to enhance their collections. We have collaboration with N-LIST.

  1. BOOK BANK SCHEME

SPC Library issues textbooks to SC/ST and students from economically less privileged sections.

  1. OPAC

The main features of the OPAC are to check the availability of books, find loan periods, renewbooks and suggest new titles for procure. To verify your library account for what is checked out and when books are due.

  1. INTERNET FACILITIES

The digital library is equipped with 09 computers connected to the Internet for users to search and browse information on electronic databases, e-journals, e-books as well as audiobooks & CD/DVDs. The library is part of the institute-wide network & has adequate computing infrastructure to cater to the needs of the users. The Wi-Fi facility in the reading area continues to attract users to bring their laptops and have seamless access to print & electronic resources.

  1. NEW ARRIVAL DISPLAY

New books are displayed on the “New Arrivals” shelves for a limited amount of time so that library users may have a chance to browse new acquisitions. List of these new book lists are also sent to the students and staff group.

  1. LIBRARY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

SPC Library staff conducts a Library Orientation Program at the beginning of the academic year for all the first-year students of UG and PG. The students are introduced to the library access, facilities, e-resources, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) software, borrowing procedure, etc.

  1. LIBRARY DAY

The SPC Library committee organizes Library Day on 12 August of every year in the memory of Padmashri Dr S. R. Ranganathan, Father of Indian Library Science. The committee conducts various events on this day, as a tribute and to bring back the memories of the great personality to the student community.

  1. WEEKEND BOOKS

SPC Library has a special corner for weekend books.There are millions of e-books,fiction,non-fiction,reference books,etc.Students and Staff of SPC will benefit immensely from these e-books shared by Library and Information Centre every Saturday via email.

  1. BROWSING CENTRE

The reading and browsing centre of the library has 09 systems installed with an internet facility. Students from UG and PG can use the systems for their academic activities.

CAS service: The purpose of a current-awareness service is to inform the users about new acquisitions in their libraries.

  1. QUESTION PAPER BANK

The Bangalore university question papers are available on the website in each department.
